The Westfalenhallen Events Centre

The term "events" is actually much too sober a description since it fails to capture the emotional response of the visitors to the Dortmund Rheinlanddamm over a period of five decades. Legendary sports highlights, unforgettable concerts and ground-breaking large-scale congresses have already taken place in the Westfalenhallen 1 to 4. There is hardly an international sports and show star that has not yet been a guest here, hardly a type of music or sport that has not yet featured in the programme.

Together, the four halls are regarded as the Westfalenhallen Events Centre. They have also lent their name to the company that runs them: Veranstaltungszentrum Westfalen GmbH. Past, present and future come together here. After modernization measures running into the millions, the Westfalenhallen Events Centre is today better able to compete than ever before.

A venue of international repute.

From a statistical point of view, the extensive programme offered by the Westfalenhallen Events Centre would suffice to delight visitors on each working day of the year. About 250 events are staged each year. Music fans whoop with delight at the thought of the list of renowned artists that have already been guests here: James Last, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, Tina Turner, Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa - to name but a few.

Classical music highlights such as the splendid guest performances of "Aida" and "Carmen" or the performances by Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo are also abiding memories. They have all turned the world experienced under the domed roof into a trademark. For Chris de Burgh the Westfalenhalle 1 is simply "the best place in the world to make music". Organizers value the versatility of the multi-purpose hall. Within the shortest possible time it can be adapted from one type of event to the next.

Sporting highlights in the Westfalenhallen Events Centre include, among other things, the most tradition-steeped six-day cycle race in Germany and the Great Christmas Prize which bring together the German and international cycling elite.

In the International Horse Show, a further highlight in the sporting calendar, the best showjumpers in the world gallop around the showjumping course and concentrate to the utmost of their ability in the dressage quadrant.

The beginning of January traditionally marks the finest hour for motorcycle racing fans. The ADAC Super Cross is characterized by a supercharged atmosphere when in the big Westfalenhalle the best specialists in this discipline race for victory and tonnes of flying clay create a real motocross feeling in the indoor circuit.

The organizers of about 30 world and more than 50 European championships have already come to value the atmosphere created in the big Westfalenhalle.

Visitors are carried away by the incomparable atmosphere that is created within the domed structure of Westfalenhalle 1 - a building granted protected-monument status. Younger generations also find events to suit their tastes. The floor pulsates to the beat of the Mayday parties, rave and techno music; fans of trend sports test the limits of pure artistry in the World Skateboard Championship. Trendsportsmen and women test the limits of pure artistry during the World Skateboard Championship. The venerable hall also offers these events a fitting framework, just as it has done during more than five decades. From traditional to highly modern - every genre of quality entertainment is at home here.
