- Europe’s unique offer for creativity
- Guest country Korea demonstrates modern art of paper-making
The CREATIVA, Europe’s leading exhibition for creative design, is taking on an increasingly international character. In 2009 the share of foreign exhibitors climbed to 12.4 percent, a result which gave the exhibition its highest international level of the last ten years. For 2010 too the CREATIVA is already developing well with an increased number of enquiries from abroad. And the contribution this year from the guest country will also have an accordingly international impact. As part of the CREATIVA 2010 (17th to 21st March) artists from Korea will be demonstrating unusual exhibits on the subject of modern paper-making. In order to support the CREATIVA’s international development over the coming years there is as of now also a website in English.
For almost three decades now the CREATIVA has been the event for the creative crafts trade. Over 80,000 creatively inclined from the whole of Germany and neighbouring countries “make a pilgrimage“ every year to the Messe Westfalenhallen Dortmund to find out facts and information on the most current creative trends and to stock up on new creative craft products and materials at Europe’s leading design atelier. Every year over 400 exhibitors present their products in altogether five trade fair halls. The majority of the products and information on offer relate to handicraft accessories, arts and craft supplies, craft and textile colours as well as tools and materials for handicraft/creative design, decoration articles, jewellery, toys, games and dolls, book publishers, and also handmade articles for every day use and objets d’art.
A particular attraction for visitors is the huge range of creative workshops and artistic contributions on offer which cover the whole spectrum of creative craft techniques.
One of the highlights at the CREATIVA 2010 will be the exhibition “Hanji Paper Road“, which originated from a co-operation with the ”Frauenmuseum“ (Women’s Museum) in Bonn and the ”Hanji Development Institute“. It demonstrates to the visitors not only how the Hanji paper is traditionally produced from the bark of the mulberry tree but also extraordinary paper works of art. Exhibits from the fields of home-living and furnishing, handicrafts and commodities, clothes, art and design will be on show.
The use of the material paper will also be demonstrated in a most spectacular manner elsewhere at the exhibition. The internationally renowned paper artist Mr. Lo will enthuse the public with his creative stage show. Within the shortest space of time Mr. Lo will be tearing costumes, stage props and accessories from news papers or silk paper and will be amazing the audience with his tricks using just paper.
As usual the CREATIVA will again in 2010 be offering a bright mix of fashion shows, special exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations, informal talks and lectures. Following the successful introduction of the special show area fokus.kreatives.handwerk exciting artists will next year be presenting their works at a common stand and offering exquisitely handcrafted exhibits for sale.
