RC vehicles speeding and jumping around the halls
The best drivers from across Europe
When remote-controlled racecars put in their laps at INTERMODELLBAU, the miniature speedsters reach some astonishing speeds. RC car races have become an audience magnet and an integral part of Europe's leading trade fair for model making and model sports. This year, from the 18th to 22nd of April, highlights at INTERMODELLBAU will include some races taking place for the first time in Dortmund or even in Germany. Also new: Motorcycles are taking part for the first time. Drivers will include European and worldwide champions.

An exciting and informative program awaits visitors. Both experienced RC car fans and novices can be sure to find competent advisors in the trade-fair halls.  This is thanks to the Minicar Club Dortmund e.V., which is representing the local associations of the Deutsche Minicar Club at INTERMODELLBAU. As an umbrella association and the ideal sponsor for INTERMODELLBAU, the DMC also presents itself at the trade fair, together with the Minicar Club Dortmund and the IG Racing Team Hamm.

Who is the most skillful driver?

The Minicar Club Dortmund supervises the racetrack in Westfalenhalle 3A. This year, the organizers can already announce numerous innovations well in advance of the fair. Here is the program:

Wednesday (18.04.2012) – HPI Challenge

This competition is held in five categories:
1.) Rookie
2.) Classic
3.) Touring Car 17.5 T
4.) Touring Car Stock
5.) Formula 1
(Detailed information on the categories online: http://www.lrp-hpi-challenge.de/)
The organizers are expecting around 80 starters at the beginning of the fair. These will include Germany's reigning champion in the "Formula 1" category.

Thursday (19.4.2012) – LRP Offroad Challenge

This year, the DMC has integrated the LRP Offroad Challenge, a Germany-wide racing series in the offroad segment, for the first time at INTERMODELLBAU. Drivers compete in four categories, with each heat lasting between five and seven minutes:
1.) Rookie Challenge
2.) Shortcourse Challenge
3.) 2WD Challenge
4.) 4WD Challenge
(Further info: www.lrp.cc/de/challenges/lrp-offroad-challenge)
The drivers' potential is encouraged using a simple but effective concept: The vehicles in the individual categories always race with structurally identical engines. This means it is the best driver that wins, not the driver with the fastest car. Both beginners and experienced racers compete in the open categories, reaching impressive speeds of up to 60 km/h.

Friday (20.4.2012) to Sunday (22.4.2012) – Euro Offroad Series

The new EOS (Euro Offroad Series) international racing series celebrates its German premiere at INTERMODELLBAU. Here, both two- and four-wheel-drive all-terrain models and trucks compete. The vehicles must overcome several artificial obstacles on the track, demonstrating single and multiple jumps. The jumps range up to six meters in length and to over two meters in height. Of course, if these jumps go wrong, the crashes can be quite spectacular.

Entry fees for racing participants:

Wednesday and Thursday:
16 euros for adults, each additional category 8 euros
8 euros for children, each additional category 8 euros
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday:
35 euros per category and person

The registration deadline for participating in the race in Hall 3A at INTERMODELLBAU is April 3, 2012. Registrations can be entered online at http://www.mcdortmund.net/, as well as by other means.

"A wider selection than ever before"

The reigning European champion Marc Rheinard has announced that he will be attending INTERMODELLBAU 2012. The European elite of RC car sport is expected to join the fun. In total, more than 120 drivers from across Europe will enter.

But at INTERMODELLBAU, it is not all about four wheels – two-wheelers will also be putting in some laps. This year, in Hall 2N, remote-controlled motorcycles will be competing for the first time. Yamaha all-terrain motorcycles in 1:8 scale will drive, jump, and careen around corners on a needle felt surface. The aim is to show that everything is possible with two-wheeled RC speedsters.

Angelika Bauer, the Westfalenhallen Dortmund GmbH divisional manager responsible for INTERMODELLBAU, summarizes: "Cars, trucks, and motorcycles – this year, we have a wider selection of RC vehicles than ever before at INTERMODELLBAU."

The company Dickie-Tamiya is also once again bringing the world's biggest youth racing series for remote-controlled electric cars to Dortmund: The Tamiya Fighter Cup. For beginners, Dickie-Tamiya provides loan cars for free so that everyone can join in. Participants have the chance to qualify for the series' huge Germany finale.

In 2012, INTERMODELLBAU will present a broad spectrum of around 550 commercial and noncommercial exhibitors in Halls 2 to 8 of Dortmund's Westfalenhallen trade-fair center. Many companies from the RC cars sector have already signed up, including, among others: Dickie-Tamiya Modellbau, LRP electronic, GM Racing, and robbe Modellsport.
