JAGD & HUND: 3rd to 8th February 2009
  • Hall 5 devoted to angler fishing
  • Special sea fishing show extended
  • Casting in Hall 3B with world champion Heinz Maire-Hensge

The JAGD & HUND will again be attracting anglers, hunters, nature- and dog-lovers from the whole of Germany and abroad to the Messe Westfalenhallen Dortmund from 3rd to 8th February 2009. In February 2008 well over 73,000 people visited Europe’s leading exhibition for hunting and angler fishing. In 2009 too a whole exhibition hall is reserved for anglers. Hall 5 will be completely devoted to fish and fishing. Clubs and Associations will be giving information about native fish species and fishing examinations, experts will be presenting various catching and casting techniques, there will be workshops and a range of tasty dishes from the angling cuisine on offer. On top of that, the reigning world champion in casting will be demonstrating his talents in Hall 3B at the weekend of the exhibition.

Angler fishing is a very popular leisure-time activity in Northrhine-Westfalia: The numerous streams, rivers, canals, lakes and dams are fished by over 250,000 licensed fishers. Specialists and experts from the Fishing Association NRW will be offering all sorts of information at the JAGD & HUND to anglers and others interested in the biology and ecology of the waters and native species of fish. This year the focus of attention will be on the eel, since it has been placed on the Red List of endangered species. On account of world-wide demand, biological enemies and also the barriers in the waters posed by hydroelectric plants, the numbers of eels have decreased significantly. A further topic will be crayfish, dealing with effective resettlement and restocking measures as well as effective long-term education within the framework of the Crayfish Project NRW.

Special Show on Sea Angling

On account of the great interest shown in recent years the Sea Angling Forum is to be enhanced with the aid of expert speakers. In 2009 the Eisele Team will also be taking part. Visitors will be carried away to deep waters around the world during a series of daily lectures. Torsten Ahrens, Bernhard Mielitz and experts from the Eisele Team will be reporting on their sea angling experiences on, for example, the Cape Verde Islands, in Norway, Iceland and the Baltic Sea. Of course the experts will also be available after the lectures for any questions and they will be pleased to offer visitors advice on anything related to sea angling. This topic will continue to remain an integral part of the lecture programme at the JAGD & HUND.

The impressive equipment with complete raised stand set-up, fully-equipped boat and bait show aquarium give a comprehensive demonstration of what is involved. In his talk Uwe Pinnau will explain the versatility of the wobbler and report on the most varied catching methods and variations in size, colour, qualities and immersion depths. This will be accompanied by a display of the appropriate materials for rods and reels and the expert will be available for a personal chat.

Anyone seeking to boost their angler’s luck can learn from national and international experts such as Robert Stroh, Jürgen Schmeisser, former world and European champion in casting Theo Matschewsky, Gerd-Peter Wieditz, Bernd Geier and Gerhard Schnöller how to make carbon-fibre rods, spinning rods and carp rods as well as spliced-fly rods and solitip systems, CDC flies and mini-tubes and many other things. Visitors can, if they wish, bring their fly rods and have them measured personally by Theo Matschewsky using a special procedure to determine the right choice of line category. At the same time Uwe Kaptein will be looking after the younger exhibition visitors and practising tying flies with them. Those taking part will receive a certificate. Prizes will be given at the end of each day for the best flies and these will be put on display.
