  • 28th Exhibition for Hunting and Angler Fishing – JAGD & HUND 2009
  • New Exhibitor and Exhibition Space Records, highest level of internationality

For the second year running the JAGD & HUND (03-08.02.2009) has already broken new records with regard to the number of exhibitors and the amount of space covered and thus continues to consolidate its position as top Exhibition of its kind. 653 (as opposed to 639 in 2008) commercial and non-commercial exhibitors from 35 countries will be represented at Europe’s greatest exhibition for hunting and fishing. Altogether 12,491 square metres (12,175 in 2008) have been booked. “Never has such a high level of internationality been achieved. The proportion of foreign exhibitors is at present over 30 percent” reported a delighted Stefan Baumann, Managing Director of the Messe Westfalenhallen Dortmund GmbH. For the first time again since 2000 the European Stag-Calling Championships will be taking place at the JAGD & HUND. 24 stag-callers from eight nations will be competing for the title.

In altogether six exhibition halls covering an area of over 44,000 square metres companies from all over the world will be presenting their huge range covering game care and conservation, hunting equipment, hunting devices, hunting tourism, off-road vehicles, hunting cabins, equipment for fishing, angling holidays and angling accessories as well as countryside protection and nature conservation. On top of that innumerable event areas and special shows will be providing great entertainment and valuable information.

Even more action than last year awaits the visitor above all in hall 3B where a number of new modules have been set up on the off-road vehicle track offering visitors the opportunity to take to the wheel themselves and test the new off-road vehicle models to their heart’s content. On a true-to-nature event area visitors can witness a duck water-chase, how to use power-saws to make high stands and fence styles and find out how to cultivate a wild field. Experts will also be giving tips on successful pigeon and crow hunting. The younger visitors to the exhibition can find out all sorts of interesting facts about local flora and fauna in the Out-of-School Nature Centre and in the Kiddies’ Adventure World. Well tried and tested programme items are to be found again in 2009 in hall 3B with birds of prey demonstrations, hunting dog breed presentations, hunting horn concerts and presentations by well-known casters and fly fishers. This year Heinz Maire-Hensge, the reigning team world champion in casting will be accompanied by other great casters and the NRW Youth Casting Section in demonstrating his accuracy skills.  Hall 3B will also have a comprehensive selection of commercial offers. Together with producers of off-road vehicles numerous companies from the most varied of fields will be presenting their goods and services.

The remaining halls however too are ready and waiting to present a colourful range of interesting topics. Competitions such as the German ladder-building competition on the Friday of the exhibition, the European Stag-calling Championships on the Saturday and activities and events such as fly tying, rod building, nature documentaries in the exhibition cinema, specialist fishing lectures, fashion shows, presentations of hunting dog breeds, game cooking, quill stitching and horn carving will all be providing exciting entertainment. The Landesjagdverband NRW (NRW Hunting Association) will be answering important questions this year on the subject of “Martens – how can I protect myself?“

In hall 7 visitors to the exhibition will also find the largest single opportunity in the whole of Europe to gather information about international hunting holidays. Within the framework of the Partner Country Programme, this year it is the Czech Republic which will be presenting itself also in its capacity as JAGD & HUND’s official Partner Country and will not only be presenting its manufacturers of hunting and fishing articles but also the many possibilities for hunting and fishing in the Czech hunting grounds and fishing waters.

The Westfalenhalle 5 is, as usual, reserved for our fishing friends. Along with comprehensive information on local waters and types of fish, numerous presentations with regard to the varied angling, fishing and baiting techniques, interesting lectures, the sea fishing forum and culinary highlights, the visitors will also be confronted with a great range covering all anglers’ needs. And anyone wanting to plan their next angling trip to German or foreign waters can find all sorts of information and advice from well-reputed organisers both here and in hall 7.

New aspects and products in 2009 also include exclusive dog beds, for example made from ostrich leather or with antelope fur, heated underwear for those long nights on the high stands, a diamond-studded falcon’s hood and the world’s unique barbecue which can grill, smoke and bake at the same time.

Opening times: daily from 10.00 to 18.00 hrs; admission for adults: EUR 12.50.
